Hi friends!

Welcome to my little corner of Al Gore’s Internet. I’m Jareesa - I’m a scientist, a freelance writer, a knitter, wife to LM, mom to #BabyPi, and more. I love Queen Bey, squishy yarn, watching GBBO, and attempting to bake. Sometimes I rant, sometimes I rave, but I always tell the truth.

I'm a Web Series Junkie

YouTube can be a Black hole - you watch one video and the next thing you know, 2 hours have passed. Last week this happened to me when I stumbled on a web series. A web series is basically a tv series that is released online via YouTube, instead of on a network. Probably the most famous web series is Issa Rae's Awkward Black Girl, which was hilarious. Thanks to Issa's success, lots of Black writers/actors/directors are showcasing their skills on YouTube. I'm a sucker for a good story, and several of these series have sucked me in. One series that I loved and eagerly anticipated was Smoke and Mirrors. This webseries is focused on a man who is rebounding from a recent breakup. I thought it was smart, realistic and the dialogue made me howl with its realness.

This series has 12 episodes, but episode 3 really made me lose it. I watched this episode at least 10 times and laughed so hard. Seriously, if you don't watch any of this series, just watch episode 3. It gets hilarious around the 3minute mark.

A few weeks ago I discovered a new web series called FIRST, which is about two childhood friends who reconnect as adults and start dating. You wanna talk about cute? From the very beginning this web series is totes adorbs and so relatable. I felt all giddy watching this buddy relationship, like I was the one in it! This web series has released 3 episodes so far and I'm eagerly anticipating the next one to drop.

The YouTube recommendations are awesome, and because I watched FIRST, I was introduced to another series called Dear Future Wife. I didn't have high expectations but I was surprised at what I found. I can't front, I kept watching this because the main character is a cutie pie. The dialogue could use some work but I'm enjoying the story as it plays out. Dear Future Wife centers on a 20something man as he tries to find the right woman.

I love seeing all this wonderful talent have an avenue to share! I'm hooked on these web series but I could also get into a couple more - what have you been watching?
