Last Sunday was the Super Bowl and I was never so happy to see it come and go! I was...interesting to live and work in a city with the Super Bowl - I didn't partake in as much stuff, it was freezing, and I read later that some of the expensive parties were a ripoff. But my commute is back to normal, so yay! Now the Winter Olympics are in full swing, and I'm watching all the sports that I only see every 4 years - luge, biathlon, speed skating, curling, etc.

High of the week: Got some REALLY great news - can't share details just yet but hopefully I will be able to share in next week's post.

Low of the week:  YOU GUYS, I had an ORDEAL this week that proved to me that changing your name is bullshit - I mean, I knew it was bullshit but this week proved it.

I discovered I have an old 401k from a job from 5yrs ago that I never did anything with. I'm a real adult now, so I figured I'd finally do something with it. Except I can't because the account is under my maiden name which is no longer my legal name. So I need to get it changed...which means I have to contact the Benefits center for my old company from 5yrs ago and get them to change it.

In order to do that, I either need to sit on the phone for 30+mins or I can try to recover my login details for the online system. I manage to recover my sign-in ID (yay!), but then I struggle a bit trying to reset my password. Manage to finally get that done and login...and then discover that I can only change address/email/phone online - to change my name I have to call. So I hop BACK on the phone and wait the 30+mins and get a very nice young man, who tells me they have to MAIL me a form to fill out. Luckily I can email it back to them with proof of my name change and then they will change it and then finally it will change with Fidelity.

If I had kept my damn name this wouldn't have been an issue. It was my choice to change my name, and I do like it, but I don't like the extra hassles that changing my name has caused, especially for stuff that I had completely forgotten about.

Anyway, how was everyone's week???

What I read this week:

Current pursuits: All things interior decorating! I'm trying to learn as much as I can, and look at all the pretty things on IG/Pinterest to get ideas and inspiration. If you have sites/tools that you love, please send them my way!

We made it out of January, the month that seemed to never end - yay! Also it's Black History Month - yay!

High of the week: Gotta be the Chick-Fil-A opening down the street from my house! Oh and the Super Bowl has been in town so I suppose that was cool too.

Low of the week: Not getting out for all the Super Bowl events. I thought about it...but I'm old. And poor. And I have a baby and a full-time job. I would have loved to hit all the parties and whatnot, but I'm just not cut out for that life anymore. Oh well...

What I read this week:

Currently loving:

This week's goals: Same as last week!

Enjoy your week!

And just like that, January is almost over. Let's get to it, shall we?

High of the week: I'm once again writing for A Practical Wedding! That piece that I submitted last week was for them. I also contributing to the weekly Happy Hour posts, providing the link roundup. I also attended a vision board workshop and made a new vision board for my 2018 manifestations.

Low of the week: The Super Bowl is coming to town! Or should I say, it's already here. For most folks, this is cause for excitement, but I am not one of those people. I work in downtown Minneapolis, and the Super Bowl Live fan experience thing is right in front of my building. My commute to work has become ridiculous thanks to the city shutting down streets so they could stage things for the various events. I get why they had to do it...but those of us who work downtown are now forced to suffer. This upcoming week I'll be working from home most of the week to avoid the traffic.

This week in self-care:

  • I finished Ready Player One! Once it got going, I was really into it and I couldn't put it down! I was lightweight disappointed when it ended, because it was so good. And while the end result was predictable, the journey to get there was so much fun. Now I'm wondering if I should have read the book first, because I'm sure the movie will disappoint in some way.
  • I've made progress on my tablet case and I'm enjoying learning how to do colorwork. I'm very glad that I taught myself how to knit continental, so that I can have one color in each hand. It's easier than trying to have both colors in my right hand. So far my tension is good so I just need to keep practicing, which this tablet case will also me to do.
  • I did get out this weekend solo which was great - I went to a friend's party and had a great time. I love my little family but it's also good for me to have some time with other folks.

What I read this week:

This week's goals:

  • Continue working on my tablet case
  • Cast on a new hat pattern
  • Eat out/get takeout one day this week (including weekends)

Have a great week everyone!

We've survived another week! This week was very busy but good - it finally warmed up to above freezing, and it's kinda sad that I live in a place where that feels like an achievement.

High of the week: I mentioned the weather already, but I'll mention it again - it's amazing how 35 degrees can feel balmy after two weeks of subzero temps! Also I'm addicted to watching Nollywood movies on Netflix! It all started when LM chose "The Wedding Party" for us to watch on a random Friday night, and from that point I was hooked! I really loved "Fifty", "When Love Happens", and "The Wedding Party".

Low of the week: Phi has had the sniffles for a few weeks now, and it's been a drag for all of us. She's also getting some new teeth :-( Also I'm working on something big (at least big for me) and I'm very worried about it working out - if you don't mind, send up a prayer for me, or just send me good thoughts and positivity.

Hobby/self-care update:

  • I've gotten back into knitting over the last six months, and I'm REALLY into it again. I've set a goal of knitting at least 12 projects this year, each one different or a new technique for me to learn. I also finally got over my fear of doing hats! I bought 4 Craftsy courses last year and I'm currently working through the Steeking class and making a tablet case. I'm also doing a toddler scarf for Phi because I couldn't find one in the store.
  • I also started reading again! I didn't do much reading in 2017 beyond news/blogs which is sad, so I've resolved to get back into fiction. First up is Ready Player One - I'm about 100 pages in and I love it! I love this view of the future, and how it looks back at the 1980s which such nostalgia.
  • I'm still working on figuring out how to take more "me time". I know I can because LM is a supportive partner and amazing dad, I just struggle with saying "I need to take a few hours and write at the coffee shop" or "I'm going to go have a glass a wine at the wine bar down the street"

Stuff I read this week:

How'd I do on last week's goals: I failed on all of them :-( I submitted one piece and that was it. I have made progress on Phi's scarf but it's not finished, probably won't be done until next week.

This week's goals:

  • Finish Phi's scarf
  • Bring coffee and lunch at least 4 days next week

Enjoy your week everyone!

Yes I'm really trying to make this a thing - what else should I talk about here?

This second week of January was super busy - shouldn't life be slowing down now? Or is my life gonna constantly be busy since I have a kid?

High of the week: My mom came to visit! In a twist of fate, it is the exact same weekend she was here last year, when Phi was first born. We've spent a lot of time hanging out, she met a few friends at a fun brunch, we went to the casino, and she's spent a lot of time being Grandma. It's always great to visit with my mom :-)

Low of the week: I had a crazy week at work and I wasn't as productive as I would have liked to have been. I also had to keep moving my status meeting with my boss...hopefully when we finally do meet in person, it will be a productive conversation

How'd I do on those goals from last week?

  1. I didn't journal at all, but I did buy some new colorful pens so that sorta counts right?
  2. I did get the financial paperwork taken care of - #win
  3. Totally figured out what I was gonna do with my mom, and we did about 25% of it due to weather.

Stuff I read/enjoyed this week:

Goals for next week:

  1. Complete my two outstanding (as in due, not as in awesome) pieces and submit them for edits.
  2. Complete the next section of the Craftsy Steeking class - I'm working on a tablet case
  3. Finish the toddler scarf for Phi
  4. Bring coffee & lunch at least 4 days this week
  5. Journal at least once.

Have a great week everyone!
